I’ve been saving these highly figured sinker cypress boards for a while. I think I’ll be making some sofa tables with them. (Finished product found here)
Unsure of what a sinker board is?
Sinker is any log that’s been underwater for a long time. These were typically logs that were lost on the waterways when being transported to the mill. These sinker cypress boards are from the Atchafalaya and were typically cut between 1850 the early 1900’s. The time underwater sitting in the mud and sediment adds a lot of color to the boards. You find hues from red, to green/blue, to black.
